Forward to Night Visions 2018, Scandinavia’s biggest horror film festival, which is held once again in Helsinki, this time letting in ghosts, witches and other paranormalities.

Shape of Water opens Night Visions film festival

Halloween is around the corner and store shelves are piled up with monster masks and plastic pumpkins, but Night Visions Maximum Halloween 3017 is still a few weeks away. The largest genre film festival in the Nordics will be arriving with fantastic force as Guillermo del Toro’s Shape of Water opens the festival on the 22nd of November.

Troll Horror Movie Backwood Madness Finishes Shooting

Hello dear horrorists, geeks and otherworldlies. This time, I have some updates from the upcoming Finnish troll horror pic Backwood Madness. First of all, it’s a wrap! The highly anticipated movie, directed by Ari Savonen, is currently in post production, gathering some magical troll dust. The premiere date won’t be announced until May in Cannes, but the film will be seen at a few relevant festivals during the summer.

Villmark 2 grabs two Amanda nominations

Trust the Norwegians for a quality genre film! This year sees a couple of genre movies also grabbing their own prestige Amanda nominations. Instituted in 1985, the annual Amanda award is the highest accolade given in Norwegian film industry.

Night Visions brings in Norwegian thrillers

This spring, Night Visions -festival hits back with a force. 32 movies from 16 different countries. The 20-year-old festival also expands to more theatres than ever. The new hosts for screenings will be Culture Factory Korjaamo and Culture Arena Gloria.

So here we are. With a new, dark superhero called Rendel, and its first teaser trailer. First of all, superheroes aren’t exactly my thing. But when a superhero film emerges from such an unlikely place as Finland, it’s bound to be interesting.

Rewriting a short film script – a total reboot

One of my ongoing projects is rewriting a 30-page short film script I wrote six years ago as part of my bachelor’s thesis. It is a ghost story based on true events. The interesting thing about coming back to and rewriting something this old, was in the way the script felt absolutely fresh and raw.

”It’s Alive!” – SFI launches a new programme for horror shorts

It's Alive!

The Swedish Film Institute (SFI) has launched a new programme for creative horror shorts produced by established or fledgling film makers. Dubbed It’s Alive!, the programme will co-fund a maximum of five shorts in its first year. The deadline for applications is February 1, 2016.

-We want to be scared, really scared, and we want horror movies that reflect both the present and the future. We’re also aware that genre movies traditionally attract lots of male filmmakers, and therefore we’d like to point out that we really expect women directors to apply
