There’s been a nice, mysterious atmosphere ahead of the news from Roope Olenius’s first feature Kyrsyä – Tuftland. All good comes to those who wait – now we got our hands on the first stills from the film. And a date for the US premiere!

The latter was something I definitely did not expect, as we really are talking of a tiny Finnish backwoods mystery. Anyway, Kyrsyä – Tuftland gets its US premiere at Other Worlds Austin film festival in December. In Austin Chronicle’s article, Festival director Bears Fonte described the movie as ‘a sort of Rosemary’s Baby meets Marcy Mae Marlene‘.

“We heard a lot of warnings beforehand to not expect too much from a Finnish language movie getting into the US market. Now it feels great that the doors have first started to open in the States, and I get to go back across the pond and show where the Finn has stretched himself to since graduating”, says Olenius, a graduate from the New York Film Academy.

The film’s cast is fresh and talented. Ria Kataja, the Finnish Theatre Actress of the Year 2016, also seen in the mainstream comedy Yösyöttö, plays a central role in Kyrsyä – Tuftland. Other notable mentions are Veera W. Vilo, Miikka J. Anttila, Saara Elina, Janne Markus Kataja, Neea Viitamäki and the director of Backwood Madness, Ari Savonen.

Below you can see the first stills, and they tell a wicked tale: there’s certainly something vicious happening in the woods. You can download all the production stills, posters, actor images here.
